Retail stores use the cameras to target theft, while homes and residential areas often have mounted IP cameras for safety reasons. Surveillance cameras have also been used extensively in daycare centers and by parents in their homes to help protect the interests of their children.

Video surveillance is a part of our daily lives. Hardly a day goes by when we are not on camera, even if just for a moment. Video surveillance goes back to 1965 when it was first reported to be used in a public place. It has not taken long for cameras to be found almost everywhere. This trend has gathered momentum quickly and shows no signs of slowing down. Video surveillance is becoming more sophisticated and now includes facial recognition software.
